MaaT Pharma is an Oncology Microbiome clinical stage company developing biotherapeutics to treat high unmet medical needs. We are among the most advanced Microbiome companies with two programs in clinical development. Being disruptive, we drive clinical studies focusing on the microbiome to investigate causality in oncology to assess the impact of modulating the Microbiome on overall survival. We use elaborated analytical tools, such as whole shotgun sequencing, that we combine with clinical data to evaluate our biotherapeutics.

  • A highly motivated results-oriented individual with a masters degree or engineering degree in life sciences/biosciences, ideally completed by IP training,
  • 5 – 10 years’ experience in the life science industry of which 3-5 years being involved with intellectual property,
  • Regarded as a strong partner to colleagues and outside advisors, at ease working in a fast-paced, small biotech environment,
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, providing strategic and tactical advice to internal teams,
  • Strong analytical skills, decision making and communication skills, with a recognized ability to synthesize complex information and subject matter,
  • Autonomous with a capacity to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, managing multiple competing demands, prioritizing effectively and strong understanding of business drivers.

Job description

We are seeking our Intellectual Property Manager reporting to our COO/CFO. The position is the junction point between the Scientific and Clinical teams, our patent attorneys and Business development.  Our Intellectual Property Manager will be responsible for managing all intellectual property matters critical to MaaT Phama’s success, including the patent portfolio strategy, IP competitive intelligence, due diligence in support of business development transactions and ensuring appropriate protection of all innovation. The successful candidate will have high technical competency in life sciences/biosciences, will be adept at serving as a trusted business advisor and have sound experience of the patent prosecution process.  As Intellectual Property Manager, the candidate is expected to accelerate the innovation to protection process, develop a streamlined approach to the IP portfolio management and take necessary actions to ensure robustness of the portfolio in view of competitive intelligence.

Key Responsabilities
  • Defines strategies to develop and protect MaaT’s intellectual property assets, establishing positive working relationships with relevant internal teams and acting as internal advisor on all variety of IP related issues and in view of third-party IP,
  • Lead the management of MaaT’s intellectual property portfolio, including the preparation and initial drafting of inventions and follow-up through the prosecution process, in collaboration with outside counsel and internal teams,
  • Oversees competitive intelligence activities (IP and Scientific), including their analysis, formulation of recommendations destined all R&D team and Executive Management,
  • Internal ambassador for all intellectual property matters, ensuring internal awareness and providing training, guidance and assisting on all IP matters
  • Ensures timely, efficient and effective management of intellectual property portfolio in collaboration with outside counsel and internal teams from preparation, submission and monitoring,
  • Ensures all IP opportunities are identified and manages risk through effective analysis of relevant third-party IP, advising on potential pathways forward,
  • Oversees outside counsel for the management and prosecution of worldwide patent applications and coordinates patentability and freedom to operate assessments,
  • Oversees competitive intelligence activities and prior art research with outside contractor
  • Ensures conclusions of patentability and FTO studies are incorporated into Company strategy.
  • Develops and continually expands a thorough understanding of MaaT’s current and planned business activities, programs, competitors, and markets and keep abreast of developing trends.
  • Contributes to IP due diligence and supports business development activities working collaboratively with Business Development, relevant internal teams and external counsel.
